This ONLINE session is available to PGRs, research staff and research-related professional services staff from the University of Liverpool and our University partners, including Sumy State University.

Joining details will be sent 2 days and 2 hours before the session begins to the email address you registered with.

In this session you’ll have the opportunity to hear from former postdocs about their personal experience of working both within and beyond academia. You’ll hear more about how the skills they acquired while carrying out their research as PGRs and postdocs are making a difference in their own career and beyond.

After the introduction and Q&A chaired by the Prosper and Research-careers.org teams, you’ll have a chance to ask the panel members any question you have.

Session outline/ plan

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Broaden their awareness of different career pathways for researchers
  • Have an understanding of what skills they are currently developing
  • Understand what skills will be valued in their future wherever their career takes them

Invited speakers:

Dr Naomi Billingsley (she/her)

Naomi is the Research Manager at The Courtauld Institute of Art. This is her second post-postdoc role – she was previously a Research Development Manager at the British Library, following a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship at the John Rylands Research Institute, University of Manchester.

Dr Eamon Dubaissi (he/him)

Eamon is a Partnership Manager at Medicines Discovery Catapult. After several years as a postdoc and fellow working in molecular biology, he moved into researcher development before taking on his current role managing strategic alliances.

Dr Allison Landman (she/her)

Allison is the Deputy Editor at The Lancet Oncology. She earned her PhD in Cancer Biology from MIT (Cambridge, MA, USA), and pursued post-doctoral research in cancer biology nationally and internationally before joining The Lancet Oncology in 2015, as a Senior Editor.

Dr Ryan Kyle (he/him)

Ryan is Principal Scientist at Sintryx, Oxford. After his undergraduate and postgraduate studies in New Zealand, he continued his research career in immunology first as a postdocs and later in the biopharmaceutical industry. He joined Sintryx as Senior Scientist in 2020.

Dr Stefania Silvestri (she/her)

Stefania is a Researcher Developer at the University of Liverpool, supporting postdocs in their career journey using Prosper.

Dr Thomas Nicol (he/him)

Thomas is a postdoc at the University of Oxford, His research is in metabolism and cardiovascular disease. Additionally he is the lead editor of research-careers.org, a resource for postdocs and PhDs considering career options.

Dr Linus Milinski (he/him)

Linus is a Postdoctoral Researcher (neuroscience & sleep research) at the University of Oxford and Events/Outreach Co-lead and Editor for research-careers.org.
